The 59-year-old is accused of stealing money from the Cancer Center located in Grand Forks dating back to 2006 when he started working there as a chief administrative officer.
Fishbein was fired in March after officials found a discrepancy in the business’s credit cards and checks. The investigation began immediately after he lost his job. Grand Forks Police Detective Mike Flannery said.
The charge against Fishbein was filed Oct. 17 along with a warrant for his arrest.
The company that manages Fishbein’s apartment in Grand Forks went to court Wednesday seeking to evict him because he is a couple of months behind in rent said attorney Grant Shaft who is representing West Ridge Apartment.
Flannery said he visited the apartment trying to locate and arrest Fishbein. There. Flannery found clothing furniture and other belongings suggesting an abrupt departure
“He just walked away from it,” Flannery said. “He just left.”
He said Fishbein was about to begin work in Bozeman before he was arrested.
“He was all set to start employment there at a hospital,” Flannery said.
Flannery wouldn’t speculate on a possible motive behind the theft.
As of Wednesday afternoon. Fishbein remained in custody according to a spokeswoman at the Gallatin County jail.
