According to the survey many women still believe that most breast cancer cases are caused by genetic mutations; however only 5% to 10% of cases are genetic. In addition the survey found that about two-thirds of women ages 18 to 24 believe breast cancer can be prevented. A woman's risk for the disease can be reduced by avoiding alcohol or taking hormone replacement therapy but it cannot be eliminated according to the The survey also found that 70% of women believe eating enough fruits and vegetables will help prevent breast cancer but there is scant scientific evidence to support the theory. Four out of 10 of the women who participated in the study believe regular self examinations are the best way to detect breast cancer early and about the same number of women believe mammograms are the best way to detect the disease early. "American Cancer Society: Politics over Patients" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:36:15

Quick: What's the American Cancer Society's be one issue? Most (if not all) of us probably answered "come up cancer of cover." And we would be wrong: So the ACS has decided to furnish up on its ads about the dangers of smoking and other risky behaviors in which we're prone to cater nor will it tout the importance of potentially life-saving cancer screenings. In their place we'll see a year-long series of advocacy pieces about the wonders of "universal health care." Ironically they won't mention that such systems themselves of fighting the disease. Instead of focusing on (and funding) research to actually cure a deadly disease the ACS is choosing to play politics with money it ostensibly raised for that aforementioned investigate. I can hardly act for next year when they decide that global warming causes cancer and go away running ads about that. The reality is that this is purely politics with no scientific basis and a deliberate sidetracking of funds for that purpose. How many patients will now die because the ACS has lied about the uses for which its fundraising was driven? My suggestion: sight another outlet for your charitable contributions and fundraising efforts (). We are pleased to finally release the first arrange of Trusted. MD.
